Bud Genius Inc. (OTC: RIGH), a leading laboratory for cannabis testing and profiling, as well as a brand development specialist, recently responded to an article appearing in USA Today examining the potential role of major tobacco companies within the burgeoning cannabis industry. Unlike many others, they believe corporate giants are inevitable and few will survive the incursion.

With the valuable data in hand, the company could see its stock become significantly more valuable if larger corporations enter the fold and are looking for a quick way to acquire the data and secure a competitive advantage in the space.

“The tobacco industry is built on brands – are you the cowboy or the jazz guy?,” added Mr. Stanz. “The three biggest brand names in the marijuana industry, one of which we recently announced, are beginning down the path of carving out market share … We view the eventual competition from the tobacco industry as building immense value in our data and stimulating the value of name brands.”

In March, the company signed a letter of intent to acquire Evergreen Licensing, which is the exclusive licensor of Tommy Chong marijuana, hemp, and cannabis-related products. Tommy Chong has become an icon in the marijuana industry and his name provides lasting brand star power. Under the agreement, the company will manage licensing and distribution of Tommy Chong products in California.

Shares of Bud Genius Inc. were unchanged in early trading on Thursday, April 16, 2015 following the news release.
