Heliospectra AB (OTC: HLSPY) (FIRSTNORTH: HELIO), a leader in intelligent lighting technology for plant research and greenhouse cultivation, recently announced the delivery of its flagship LX60 technology to Gothenburg Botanical Gardens and results from over five months of testing. With over 175 hectares in Central Gothenburg, it’s one of the largest botanical gardens across all of Europe with 40 cultivated acres.
The LX60 was launched last Spring as a new kind of energy-efficient and fully controllable LED grow light, designed and engineered to replace traditional HPS and HID lamps. As a first step towards a complete biofeedback system, the lamp includes sensors detecting how the plants are reacting to the light and the environment, then adapting the light to fit the plants’ needs in order to improve growing dynamics.
After five months of testing, Gothenburg Botanical Gardens reported exceptional business results from using the system. All of its Dionysia-cuttings survived and the aphid attacks have been minimized. Over the winter, the botanical garden sought to add supplemental lighting in order to improve quality, but traditional HPS lamps were too hot for high altitude plants. The LX60 provided an ideal alternative resolved those issues and provided other benefits.
Heliospectra’s products are based on a deep knowledge of plant physiology and photosynthesis combined with a unique way of using state-of-the-art LED technology. After seven years of development in Sweden, the company released its first commercial light, the LX60 Series in 2014, and is now venturing into the international marketplace.
In addition to targeting traditional botanical markets, the company recently announced its entry into the recreational and medical marijuana markets around the world. The improving regulatory situation in the U.S., Canada, and other countries has led to significant demand for high-quality lighting solutions to lower costs, improve yields, and optimize quality.
