Summary

  • This is the first part of a 3 part series, where I will re-examine stocks [N=149] included in my past Seeking Alpha articles.
  • This first installment examines those stocks trading higher from the date when my first 4 articles were published, covered n=12 stocks [N=48] in each installment.
  • None of the N=48 firms (0.0%) are trading above their 52-week high.
  • Nine of the N=48 firms (~19%) are trading higher, as of February 27, 2015; stocks trading lower or at the same price-per-share are listed in a table, but not addressed.
  • Effectively, this article focuses on recent “winners” in the marijuana sector.

My Seeking Alpha articles, focusing on the marijuana sector, are posted here.

This article examines the “winners” from my first 4 groups of n=12 marijuana stocks examined in earlier Seeking Alpha articles [N=48]. “Losers” or those stocks trading at the same price-per-share are not addressed, but are included in the Appendix, for completeness. This is the first of a 3 part series.

When you begin with a population, and, effectively, reverse engineer to identify the reasons for stock price appreciation, you are more likely to see patterns. One of the patterns present/apparent in this article is that stock price appreciation is greatest for those firms making progress on projects and making frequent announcements of their progress.

Totally Hemp Crazy, InMed Pharmaceuticals, Electronic Cigarettes International, and Cannagrow Holdings have, all, provided regular news releases or updates as they make progress in a variety of projects. All of these firms have enjoyed at least 50% stock price appreciation, and over a very short period of time. While I did not examine “stock promotions,” per se, or attempt to isolate or determine their impact, it is clear that disclosing progress, in a ~$350 newswire, has a positive effect on shareholder value.

Generally, these are the firms you want own equity in, at least in the near-term. The stock price appreciation, of course, may or may not “stick,” long-term, or beyond continued announcements and disclosures, but they are more likely to be long-lasting, when compared to high frequency, intermittent stock promotions.

1-Green Cures & Botanical Distribution, Incorporated [12/24/2014].

Green Cures [GRCU] closed on February 27, 2015, at $0.0049 per share, slightly higher that the December 24, 2014 price-per-share, but significantly lower than its 52-week high. January 12, 2015 saw a spike in price-per-share, but it did not “stick.” There have been several public releases regarding the launch of their Rico Suave, a hemp infused energy drink/supplement.
