According to a new CNN/ORC International survey, the majority of U.S. citizens support the legalization of marijuana for the first time ever. Fifty-five percent of those questioned nationally said marijuana should be made legal, while only 44% disagreed with that sentiment. However, the support comes largely from the younger generation, with only 39% of those older than 65 supporting legalization compared to three-quarters of those 18-34 years old.
“Attitudes toward the effects of marijuana and whether it is morally wrong to smoke pot have changed dramatically over time,” said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland in a recent article. “That also means that marijuana use is just not all that important to Americans any longer.”
